Pedro Parra was born in Concepción, Chile, near Bio Bio and Itata. After years of travel he is now back in Concepción, working vineyards and raising his family. Parra has a PhD in terroir from the Paris Center of Agriculture, with six years’ experience in French terroirs and has been called a “matchmaker of grapes and soil type.” Granite soil abound in Concepción and he is dedicated to grapes like país that thrive well there. While making his own wines, he also serves as consultant for other winemakers and viticulturalists around the world.  He is currently an important figure in the Chilean wine scene, working to bring more attention to what the country’s wines and terroir have to offer.

100% país made in a light, chillable style. While the more appropriate wine term might be “freshly turned earth,” Christie and I affectionately call wines like this “stinky.” The impact from the  granite soils adds a stoney minerality and the finish is full of herbaceous mint and thyme.
